The Battle is the Lord's

Thus says the LORD to you: “Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours but God’s… 2 Chronicles 20:15

It is good to remember that the daily skirmishes we fight our not ours but the Lord’s. Ultimately Satan is not at war with us as much as he is at war with God! When the Devil lifted himself up in pride and made his five “I will” statements of rebellion against God, he did not say, “I want to be like mankind.” He said, “I want to be like the Most High” (Is. 14:14). He wants to be like God and has been at battle with God ever since.
When Satan attacked the Lord Jesus in the wilderness and at other times throughout His life is was not only because He lived a sinless life as the perfect Man, but it was because He was and is God. Satan’s long war has been against God. We are soldiers in the Lord’s army, but it’s the Commander in Chief whom Satan is truly against. The battle is not ours it is the Lord’s!

We can trace this truth through Scripture. Moses encourage the Israelites as they faced many enemies, “You must not fear them, for the Lord your God Himself fights for you” (Deut. 3:22). Nehemiah was being attacked, he declared to those that worked on the wall, “God will fight for us” (Neh. 4:20). When the Assyrian King marched against Hezekiah, he reminded the people, “with him is an arm of flesh; but the Lord is our God, to help us and to fight our battles” (Chron. 32:8). Joshua continually drove this message home reminding them that it was the Lord who fought for them (Josh. 10:14, 23:3, 10). As David faced Goliath he proclaimed, “The battle is the Lord’s, and He will give you into our hands” (1 Sam. 17:47).

The battle is the Lord’s and it is the He who always leads us in triumph and gives us the victory (1 Cor. 15:57, 2 Cor. 2:14)!
