Who Is the Holy Spirit?

The Holy Spirit is God
1. He is called God Acts 5:3-4

2. He does work that only God can do
• Involved in Creation Genesis 1:2, Job 26:13, Genesis 2:7, Job 33:4
• Involved in spiritual birth, which is a work of God John 1:12-13 John 3:5

3. He possesses Divine attributes, He is:
• Eternal Hebrews 9:14
• Omnipresent (Every where at once) Psalm 139:7-10
• Omniscience (All knowing) 1 Corinthians 2:11
• Omnipotent (All powerful) Romans 8:11

4. He is Equal with God the Father
Matthew 28:19, 2 Corinthians 13:14

The Holy Spirit is a Person
1. Personal pronouns are used when referring to the Holy Spirit John 14:16, 17, 16:7-15

2. He possesses intelligence 1 Corinthians 2:10-13, Romans 8:27, Ephesians 1:17, Isaiah 11:2

3. He has a will 1 Corinthians 12:11, 2 Peter 1:20, 21, Acts 16:6-11

4. He displays emotion
• He can be grieved Ephesians 4:30
• He wars against the flesh Romans 5:5
• He yearns jealously James 4:5

5. He can be insulted Hebrews 10:29

6. He can be resisted Acts 7:51

7. He performs the Activities of a person
• The Spirit teaches John 14:26
• The Spirit testifies John 15:26, Romans 8:16
• The Spirit guides John 16:13, Romans 8:14
• The Spirit convinces John 16:7-8
• The Spirit restrains Genesis 6:3, 2 Thessalonians 2:7
• The Spirit commands and directs Acts 8:29
• The Spirit calls and sends forth for special service Acts 13:2-4
• The Spirit intercedes Romans 8:26
